This visit to D' Big Mama is a part of my Chicken Rice Saga. My aim is to visit all of Perth's restaurants that offer Hainanese chicken rice on their menus. I always order the leg part if possible because it's much more tender than the breast part. These visits are unannounced and I do not gain anything from these blog posts, maybe except weight.

The first thing we noticed when we walked past the shop was the crowd! This is a Malaysian restaurant, the amount of dishes featured on the menu was quite over-whelming, and only make your lunch decisions that bit harder. But the crowd normally means a good sign so we were quite excited to order our chicken rice.

What a pleasant surprise! Despite the oddly-chopped chicken pieces, their tenderness and juiciness won us over. The soup was flavoursome, the chilli sauce was good and the soy sauce was a perfect balance. If only the rice wasn't over-powered with fat/butter it would have been a much more enjoyable eat. Nonetheless, a yummy meal was had and we would surely return in the future.

We have been to this restaurant a few times over the years and truthfully we have never been impressed. Despite calling themselves Singapore Chicken Rice, their chicken rice still needs a lot of improvement. There was no love put into the dish and it was very evident on the plate.
- FINAL RATING: 3 / 10 -
Unfortunately, there was nothing positive about this serve of chicken rice. Not the chicken, not the soy sauce, not the soup, not the chilli sauce, and definitely not the rice. The only saving grace for the shop itself is the friendly staff. Other dishes might be worth trying but if they can't even nail their specialty dish, it's hard to imagine how other items on the menu would be outstanding.

Impressive Cuisine specialises in Xi An food and also has a big variety of grilled skewers. The smell of charcoal-grilled meat was amazing but we were equally excited about the various dumpling types.
- FINAL RATING: 3.4 / 10 - AVG PRICE: $1.38 / dumpling Our dining experience at Impressive Cuisine today was nowhere good enough to warrant another visit but other items on their menu might, especially the meat skewers. As far as dumplings go, unfortunately these were amongst one of the worst dumpling joints I've ever been to. The only great thing about our dinner here is the intense chilli oil, that is definitely awards-worthy. Apart from that, sorry to say we won't be back anytime soon. 45/188 Newcastle Street NORTHBRIDGE

This little humble dumpling house has always been a favourite of mine since last year! I've been here more than 10 times, eaten hundreds of dumplings and every single time their food has hit the mark! So what really set Authentic Bites' dumplings apart from the other joints? The fact that everything is hand-made (you can view the process through a window!), the thin-ness of the dumpling skin, the juicy dumpling fillings, the creativity in flavour combinations or all of the above? Guess you gotta pay the place a visit to find out!

AVG PRICE: $1.2 / dumpling Authentic Bites Dumpling House has never failed to impress me with not only the food quality but also the friendliness of their staff. I could not recommend this place enough for obvious reasons, it's the heart that was put into creating these little nuggets of joy that makes a difference and I always find myself salivating thinking of the next time I would visit again. Can't they just have a loyalty card system already?!?!! 100% would dumpling again, OVER AND OVER AGAIN! ANDDD if they bring back the prawn & loofah xiao long bao, my life would 110% be complete.
